The year ahead
This is a year when greed can easily run ahead and lead you astray. You may be distracted by glamour, like a butterfly lost deep in a flower garden. Valuable positions don't come easily, so if you want to know your whole life's course, choose where you live carefully, like Mencius's mother of old.
This is a year when setting down greed and rightly knowing your place is the greatest lesson. The first line, a busy wandering life that doesn't know its lot, warns that chasing this and that, you can easily miss what really matters. As in the butterfly lost where the flowers have fallen, don't let flashy appearances or past glory steal your heart. The line about having no noble place to stay means it's a time to firm up your foundation rather than hoping for a big position right now. The last line, about Mencius's mother moving house three times, teaches that choosing your surroundings and the people beside you well changes your whole life. In the sixth and eighth lunar months there's the joy of gaining money through documents and benefactors' help. On the other hand, in the first, third, seventh and eleventh lunar months the businesses you run stall and you easily lose out through others' words, so step back. Know your lot and tend your surroundings, and you can cross the year smoothly.

Who gets this hexagram?
