The original verse and its meaning

1. 一八玄門 人不識仙
   Once you entered the gate of mystery, yet people do not recognize the immortal.
2. 有路南北 紛紛忽走
   There are roads to the south and north, so you rush about in confusion.
3. 落日照面 莫到黃泉
   The setting sun shines on your face, so don't go to dangerous places.
4. 秋自聖明 疑是鬼哭
   Autumn is naturally clear and bright, yet at idle sounds you suspect a ghost's wail.

On the other hand, in the fourth, sixth and eleventh lunar months you may lose out through travel and disputes, so step back. It's an ill-omened reading, but you can get past it with care, and remember the saying that a house that builds virtue has celebrations to spare.

   運數亨通 家有吉祥 山耶水耶 利在其中 · Fortune flows freely so there's an auspicious sign at home; whether mountain or water, profit lies within.

2. Lunar month 2Mar 8 – Apr 6Even

   Move with the flow and it's a smooth month. It's good for clearing out old methods and accepting new things.

   隨時而行 不失其度 去舊就新 災消福來 · Acting according to the times without losing your principles, if you let go of the old and move toward the new, calamity vanishes and blessings come.

3. Lunar month 3Apr 7 – May 5Even

   You meet someone who'll help, but money leaks easily this month. Good connections or news may come from the west.

   出門向西 恩人何來 財數如何 得而失半 · Go out the door and west and a benefactor comes, but in financial luck you lose half of what you gain.

4. Lunar month 4May 6 – Jun 4Care

   There's much to be careful about this month. Long trips, moves or new work easily lead to losses, so postpone them.

   勿爲出行 損害多端 莫近南方 事不如意 · Don't set out on the road; there's much loss, and don't go near the south; things won't go as you wish.

5. Lunar month 5Jun 5 – Jul 3Even

   Even when good and bad are mixed, a steady heart wins this month. Keep at it without wavering and unexpected money follows.

   執心如一 自然得利 意外得財 終時成家 · Keep your heart single-minded and you naturally gain profit; you unexpectedly gain wealth and at last build your household.

6. Lunar month 6Jul 4 – Aug 1Care

   You mustn't let your guard down because the start is good this month. Even if things seem to go well, check them to the end.

   先吉後凶 凡事愼之 避身南方 此厄可免 · Auspicious at first and ill later, so be careful in all things; escape to the south and you can avoid this trouble.

7. Lunar month 7Aug 2 – Aug 31Even

   With help from superiors or benefactors, your position may rise this month. But if you treat others lightly because you've risen, harm comes back.

   人有提拔 必見榮貴 勿爲凌人 反有其害 · Someone guides me so I see honor, but looking down on others may bring harm instead.

8. Lunar month 8Sep 1 – Sep 29Bright

   You put down roots in a new place this month. Chances come when you get moving and money comes in from outside.

   東山靑松 移植成林 飢者逢豐 外財入門 · You transplant the green pines of the garden into a forest, and the hungry meet a bumper harvest as outside money comes through the door.

9. Lunar month 9Sep 30 – Oct 28Bright

   Welcome news arrives this month. A benefactor appears and things become easier, and there's a celebration at home.

   鵲巢庭棲 貴人來助 積德之家 必有餘慶 · A magpie settles in the courtyard so a noble person comes to help; a house that has built virtue may have celebrations to spare.

10. Lunar month 10Oct 29 – Nov 27Even

    Money comes in well, but you must pay attention to home and words this month. Look after the health and feelings of your children or younger people.

    財數大通 膝下有憂 官由於此 必由口舌 · Financial luck flows widely but there's worry over your children; government matters arise from this, likely beginning with an argument.

11. Lunar month 11Nov 28 – Dec 27Care

    Things keep going awry and it's frustrating this month. Even if results don't match your effort, don't blame yourself.

    魔神作害 事多無功 偶然之事 口舌可畏 · As if demons did harm, there's no merit in your work, and arguments over chance matters are to be feared.

12. Lunar month 12Dec 28 – Jan 26, 2028Bright

    You close the year smiling this month. Money arises from work related to writing, documents or planning.

    財運旺盛 以文生財 貴人來助 喜事重重 · Financial luck flourishes so wealth arises through writing; a noble person comes to help, so happy events come layer upon layer.
