The original verse and its meaning

1. 擇地移居 福祿綿綿
   You choose your ground and move house, and blessings and rewards flow on without end.
2. 沼魚出海 意氣洋洋
   The fish of the marsh swims out to sea, its spirit soaring high.
3. 太旱七年 喜逢甘雨
   After seven years of great drought, you meet a welcome, sweet rain.
4. 破廁老鼠 走入陳倉
   The old rat from a crumbling outhouse dashes into a storehouse full of aged grain.

The verses follow the public-domain Tojeong Bigyeol held by the National Library of Korea; the meanings are Luna Alley's own retelling.

The year ahead

This is a good year to move or start anew. You overflow with energy like a fish leaving the swamp for the sea, and you meet a welcome rain after seven years of drought. Your household grows comfortable, like a mouse from a shabby place moving into a great storehouse.

This is an auspicious year when the more you relocate and start anew, the more blessings stick to you. The first line, choosing your ground and moving house, means that changing your environment, through a move, a job change or a fresh start, leads to good results. The marsh fish swimming out to sea means leaving a small stage and spreading your wings somewhere wide, so if there's a challenge you've hesitated over, this year is the right time. Like meeting sweet rain after a seven-year drought, long-standing worries are cleared away refreshingly. The last line, a rat from a shabby place entering a grain store, is welcome news that your household will become noticeably better off. Just be careful in the third lunar month, when you may lose things or be robbed, and in the eighth lunar month, when starting something with narrow judgment brings loss. From autumn, what was blocked breaks open and everything you do is beneficial, and that energy carries on to year's end. It's a year when sharing your blessings humbly as they come in makes them stay longer.

   You open the new year with a bright face this month. Something you were worried about unexpectedly turns for the better, and you meet someone welcome.

   轉禍爲福 喜色滿面 得人何歡 事不成心 · Misfortune turns into fortune and joy fills your face. You're glad to win good people, but things don't go exactly as planned.

2. Lunar month 2Mar 8 – Apr 6Bright

   This is a welcome month when your household has some breathing room. Income or help may come from places you never expected.

   鼠入倉庫 衣食自足 偶然得財 生計自足 · The rat enters the granary, so clothing and food are naturally plentiful; by chance you gain wealth and your household prospers.

3. Lunar month 3Apr 7 – May 5Care

   This is a month of seizing chances while busily coming and going. There's profit from far away, but your handling of belongings and money can get careless for the same reason.

   到處有財 遠行可得 失物愼之 盜賊可慮 · Wherever you go there is wealth, and you can gain it on a long journey, but take care not to lose things and be on guard against thieves.

4. Lunar month 4May 6 – Jun 4Even

   Things may go off course for a while this month and hurt your feelings. But this is only a small pause for breath within the larger flow.

   先不隨意 何得中心 正心修德 福祿自來 · At first things don't go as you wish, so how could you be satisfied? Set your heart right and cultivate virtue, and blessings and rewards come on their own.

5. Lunar month 5Jun 5 – Jul 3Even

   There's plenty to feel good about this month, but overdoing it brings trouble. Be careful not to drink too much or make unreasonable commitments in your excitement.

   五六月令 靜則大吉 此月之數 樂極哀生 · In the fifth and sixth lunar months, staying still is greatly auspicious, but this month, when pleasure runs out, sorrow may follow.

6. Lunar month 6Jul 4 – Aug 1Even

   Your efforts become known and recognized this month. Your name may come up at work or in groups, and you may receive good reviews.

   名傳四方 萬人仰視 利在何城 火金兩姓 · Your name spreads in all directions and many look up to you; profit lies with people of Fire and Metal.

7. Lunar month 7Aug 2 – Aug 31Even

   A single word can easily turn into a dispute this month. Even if you're upset, confiding in just anyone can make it spread in odd ways.

   七八月令 或有口舌 心中之事 向人莫說 · In the seventh and eighth lunar months there may be quarrels, so don't tell others what's in your heart.

8. Lunar month 8Sep 1 – Sep 29Even

   Your view narrows and your judgment can cloud easily this month. Jumping into unfamiliar things like a new business or side gig could cost you.

   坐井觀天 所見不廣 勿謀他營 必有損財 · Sitting in a well and looking at the sky, your view is not wide. Don't plan other ventures; you could easily lose money.

9. Lunar month 9Sep 30 – Oct 28Bright

   This is the month your year opens up the most. Matters long blocked break through refreshingly, and money and opportunity flow in together.

   否往泰來 手弄千金 凡百經營 無不吉利 · Blocked luck leaves and open luck arrives, putting a thousand pieces of gold in your hand; every undertaking brings benefit.

10. Lunar month 10Oct 29 – Nov 27Bright

    Flexibility calls in blessings this month. Don't insist on just one method; adjust to the situation and things will go smoothly.

    隨時變通 事可如意 吉神扶助 事事成就 · Adapt to the times and things go as you wish; auspicious spirits help you, so every task is accomplished.

11. Lunar month 11Nov 28 – Dec 27Even

    Small but sparkling joys continue this month. You may be recognized at work or receive news of a promotion or acceptance.

    鶯棲柳枝 片片黃金 若非官祿 子孫有慶 · An oriole perches on a willow branch, each piece pure gold; if not an official's reward, then there's joy for your descendants.

12. Lunar month 12Dec 28 – Jan 26, 2028Bright

    This month closes the year and opens the door to the next. Even in a good flow, don't let your guard down; look out for small risks in advance.

    此月之數 安中防危 自此以後 事事亨通 · This month, guard against danger amid comfort, and from then on everything goes well.

Who gets this hexagram?
