The original verse and its meaning

1. 淸風明月 對酌美人
   Under a clear breeze and bright moon, you sit across from a lovely companion and share a cup.
2. 漸漸榮華 宗不輕也
   Honor grows little by little, so the roots of that household are by no means light.
3. 碧梅花開 春色穠穠
   The green plum blossoms open and the spring light ripens rich and lush.
4. 撥設舊門 萬人卽仰
   You reopen and raise the old gate that was shut, and many soon look up to you.

The year ahead

This is a year when joy and glory gradually grow. Warm energy fills your home, as green plum blossoms open and spring light deepens. Past endeavors come back to life, as if an old gate were reopened, and many people look up to you.

This is a year when joy and honor pile up one step at a time. The first line, sharing a cup with a lovely companion under a clear breeze and bright moon, means the blessing of enjoying good times with someone who understands you. The second line, growing gradually more honored, speaks not of luck that bursts all at once but of reputation and livelihood that grow steadily. Green plum blossoms opening and spring light deepening means warmth flows through your home, and new life or a celebration settles in. The last line, reopening the old gate, is a promise that work that had stopped for a while, or past connections or a family business, will revive and win people's recognition. Bright months continue from the third to the fifth lunar month, in the eighth lunar month, and from the tenth lunar month through year's end, so the whole year is plentiful. But in the sixth lunar month, quarrels and minor illness hide amid the good, so take care with your body and words just then. The bigger your blessings, the more you share them humbly, and the longer the honor lasts.

   Warm ripples stir from the very first lunar month of the new year. It's a good time for affectionate moments with your partner, like mandarin ducks, and unexpected income may come.

   水暖金塘 元央浮沈 災消福來 意外得財 · In a warm golden pond, mandarin ducks bob and dive at play; calamity vanishes and blessings arrive, and you unexpectedly gain wealth.

2. Lunar month 2Mar 8 – Apr 6Even

   This is a month when wealth follows you when you go out and move around rather than staying home.

   財在南方 出行可得 芝蘭繁茂 膝下有慶 · Wealth lies to the south, so go out and you can gain it; fragrant herbs and orchids flourish, so there's a celebration for your children.

3. Lunar month 3Apr 7 – May 5Bright

   This is a bright month when help from those around you seems to gather all at once. Things that were too much to handle alone resolve easily when done with others.

   衆人助我 福祿如山 日月明朗 必有慶事 · Many people help you, so your blessings and rewards are like a mountain; the sun and moon are bright, so there may be a celebration.

4. Lunar month 4May 6 – Jun 4Bright

   Inside and outside the home, work and family, all come into harmony this month. What was once a stumbling block may turn into a good opportunity.

   內外和合 萬事如意 吉神照命 轉禍爲福 · Inside and out are in harmony, so everything goes as you wish; auspicious spirits shine on your fate, and misfortune turns into fortune.

5. Lunar month 5Jun 5 – Jul 3Bright

   There are lots of outside activities and gatherings, and happy things happen everywhere this month. Travel, business trips and meeting new people lead to pleasant results.

   驅馳四方 到處有慶 飮酒高歌 興趣沼沼 · Galloping in all four directions, there's celebration wherever you go; drinking wine and singing loudly, your spirits overflow.

6. Lunar month 6Jul 4 – Aug 1Care

   Small stones hide in the path amid the good flow this month. Small words can grow into big quarrels, so when emotions rise, step away for a moment.

   吉中有凶 一次爭論 凶殺暗動 少有疾厄 · Within the good there is ill, so a quarrel arises once, and bad energy moves in secret, bringing a minor illness.

7. Lunar month 7Aug 2 – Aug 31Even

   Awaited news or an unexpected connection comes this month. If you're single, you may meet someone good through an introduction or a chance encounter.

   靑鳥傳信 偶結良緣 鳳凰呈祥 子孫榮貴 · A bluebird brings news and you happen to form a good bond; the phoenix reveals an auspicious sign, and your descendants are honored.

8. Lunar month 8Sep 1 – Sep 29Bright

   Things go smoothly with a benefactor's help this month. Even blocked matters show a way easily when you borrow someone's hand.

   貴人來助 福祿如山 害在何姓 必是火姓 · A noble person comes to help, so your blessings and rewards are like a mountain. If you ask which surname brings harm, it's one of Fire (火) energy.

9. Lunar month 9Sep 30 – Oct 28Even

   Results follow in proportion to how much you move this month. Go out, meet people and look for work, and it returns as recognition or income.

   此月之數 出門有功 若非官祿 橫財之數 · This month there's merit in stepping out the door; if not in office, then a fortune of unexpected wealth.

10. Lunar month 10Oct 29 – Nov 27Bright

    There may be news of a new family member, or a long journey may come up this month. The things you've worked hard at are reaped amply, like a bumper grain harvest.

    若非生産 遠行之數 百穀豐登 懷懷滿家 · If not a birth, then a fortune of setting out on a long journey; every grain yields a bumper crop and joy fills the house.

11. Lunar month 11Nov 28 – Dec 27Bright

    Like rain falling right on time, everything works out just right this month. Your body and mind are at ease and you're warmly received wherever you go.

    好雨知時 處處桑麻 身數泰平 到處春風 · Good rain knows its season and mulberry and hemp grow everywhere; your body is at peace and a spring breeze blows wherever you go.

12. Lunar month 12Dec 28 – Jan 26, 2028Bright

    In the month that closes the year, clear energy arrives like a sky after rain. Money and blessings come together and your home is peaceful.

    雨後月出 景色更新 財福具全 家內和平 · After the rain clears the moon rises and the view is new; wealth and blessings are complete and the home is at peace.

Who gets this hexagram?

The hexagram depends on your lunar birth date and the year being read. The upper number comes from your Korean age that year plus the year's taese number, the middle from the length and month number of your birth month that year, and the lower from your birth day plus the day number.
