The original verse and its meaning
- 遍踏帝城 千門共開
You tread all across the walls of the imperial palace, and a thousand gates open together. - 淸香遠播 運通日影
A clear fragrance spreads far and your fortune shines everywhere like sunlight. - 崢嶸豪傑 大明稱贊
You are a towering hero, and the bright world praises you greatly. - 命在威權 腰佩黃金
Your destiny lies in dignity and power, so you wear gold at your waist.
The verses follow the public-domain Tojeong Bigyeol held by the National Library of Korea; the meanings are Luna Alley's own retelling.
The year ahead
This is a year when doors open wherever you go. A clear fragrance spreads far and your luck flows like sunlight. You're widely praised as an outstanding figure, and with destiny on the side of authority, you wear gold at your waist.
This is a year when doors open wherever you go. As in the first line, the palace gates open together, so you can approach places and people you couldn't reach before. The clear fragrance of the second line is a good reputation. A name built honestly spreads far and luck shines evenly like sunlight. The third line shows you praised as a towering hero, so you may take on a position of responsibility. The golden belt of the fourth line is authority and reward. But the greater your authority, the more humble you must be for blessings to last. In the seventh and eighth lunar months there are quarrels and gossip, and in the ninth lunar month you need to look after your health. In the twelfth lunar month be careful that the kindness of someone close doesn't turn into enmity. Get past those hurdles and it's a year accompanied by great glory.
A word from Master Tojeong
“A thousand gates have opened, so enter freely. Yet if you wear gold at your waist, you must bow your head all the lower. The more fragrance is hidden, the farther it travels.”
