The year ahead
This is a year when rushing before the time is ripe makes things awkward. Greed clouds your judgment, like holding a rice cake in each hand and being unable to choose. It isn't your season, as fireflies lose their light in spring, so mend what's worn and start anew, and spring will return to the flower garden.

The first verse, about an unmarried maiden toying with a jewel, reads as wanting something clearly while it's not yet your turn to have it. Setting a table inside the curtain and holding a rice cake in each hand depicts having many good things before you but being unable to let go of either, so you end up properly tasting neither. A firefly on a spring night is an insect that shines only once summer comes; having met the wrong season it loses its light, meaning the stage for your talents to show hasn't arrived yet. So in the first half, set aside impatience and practice choosing one thing to focus on. The last verse says that if you mend the old and start anew, spring returns to the flower garden, so the moment you sort out old habits or ways, the flow changes. In fact, after autumn, and especially toward year's end, lucky energy grows month by month. It's a year that shows how, for those who mend things without hurrying, late-blooming flowers last longer.
