The original verse and its meaning

1. 花柳春風 鶯歌太平
   A spring breeze blows through the flowers and willows, and the oriole sings of peace.
2. 天地得合 有物皆成
   Heaven and earth join together, so all things are accomplished.
3. 夢得良馬 何羨伯樂
   In a dream you obtained a fine horse — why envy Bole, the judge of horses?
4. 烏鵲南飛 喜氣必成
   A magpie flies south, so joyful energy easily comes to pass.

   Hold steady and it's an okay month. There may be happy family news, like news of a baby or a new family member.

   膝下有慶 生子之數 財在北方 求則可得 · There is joy among your children, with a chance of gaining a child; wealth lies to the north, so if you seek it you can gain it.

3. Lunar month 3Apr 7 – May 5Care

   This is a month not to overdo it but to take a breather. Big and small quarrels are frequent and your feelings may be hurt.

   若無相爭 口舌紛紛 身運如此 豈不可嘆 · If there is no fighting, quarrels arise in confusion; your bodily fortune being thus, how could you not lament?

4. Lunar month 4May 6 – Jun 4Care

   There's a lot to be careful about this month. Many things are as taxing as pushing a cart uphill.

   推車上山 勞力無功 朱雀發動 間間口舌 · You push a cart up a mountain, toiling without merit; the Vermilion Bird stirs, so there are occasional quarrels.

   Hold steady and it's an okay month. Handle long trips or work toward the south with care.

   莫行南方 吉變爲凶 昔日繁華 有似夢境 · Do not go south, for good fortune turns to ill, and the splendor of days past is like a dream.

6. Lunar month 6Jul 4 – Aug 1Even

   It's a month that flows smoothly. Even if unexpected changes arise, accept the flow rather than forcibly resisting.

   狂風忽作 落花紛紛 運之所在 不可抗力 · A mad wind suddenly rises and the petals fall in confusion; where fortune lies cannot be opposed by force.

7. Lunar month 7Aug 2 – Aug 31Care

   This is a month to step back and hold steady. There are signs of worries receding, but it's not yet time to let your guard down.

   此月之數 災消福來 凡事可愼 或恐損財 · This month's fortune: misfortune vanishes and blessings come, but you must be cautious in all things, for financial loss may be feared.

8. Lunar month 8Sep 1 – Sep 29Care

   There's a lot to be careful about this month. Profit that seems within reach may actually be an illusion.

   入海求珠 利在目前 所謂經營 虛妄奈何 · You dive into the sea seeking pearls and profit seems right before your eyes, but the so-called enterprise is empty — what can be done?

9. Lunar month 9Sep 30 – Oct 28Even

   Hold steady and it's an okay month. When your heart is heavy and tired, cut back on outside work and rest at home.

   愁心滿面 不如居家 雖有財祿 於身不利 · Worry fills your face, so nothing is better than staying home; though there is wealth and income, it does not benefit your body.

10. Lunar month 10Oct 29 – Nov 27Even

    Good and bad are half and half this month. Like leaves falling in the autumn wind, your heart may grow lonely.

    風振林木 落葉蕭蕭 莫出慾心 反爲失敗 · The wind shakes the forest and fallen leaves are lonely; do not be greedy, or you will fail instead.

11. Lunar month 11Nov 28 – Dec 27Care

    This is a month to step back and hold steady. A little income may arise from the north.

    必有小財 宜行北方 莫信人言 陰害可慮 · There is a little wealth, so it is fitting to go north; do not trust others' words, for there is concern they may secretly do you harm.

12. Lunar month 12Dec 28 – Jan 26, 2028Even

    Good and bad are half and half this month. Half-hearted effort makes blessings hard to hold, and only accumulated steady effort brings fitting blessings.

    若小勤力 壽福難期 開運三多 不小不大 · With only a little effort, long life and blessings are hard to count on; if the three things that open fortune abound, a blessing neither small nor great will come.
